If you want to learn about a city, learn about its neighborhoods. They’re the places that give a city its personality and where we recommend any visitor start when exploring Columbus.

Neighborhoods here are historic and full of food, culture and unique attractions. Start with the Five on High, five of Columbus’ most central neighborhoods along High Street, where you’ll be close to the action, from professional sports to cultural institutions. Then, venture farther from Downtown—including inside and outside the 270 outerbelt—to discover even more distinctive neighborhoods, each with its own character, friendly local businesses and innovative cuisine. Every neighborhood is different, so follow this guide as you begin exploring the city.

Downtown Columbus

Downtown Columbus is the central business, entertainment and cultural hub of the city. Its tall towers make it stand out drawing visitors who come to tour the Ohio Statehouse, catch a performance at one of the many theaters or grab dinner at a high-end restaurant. Cross the river to visit the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) and explore nearby Franklinton’s vibrant arts scene or walk south to the Scioto Mile Promenade on the banks of the Scioto River.

Arena District

The Arena District boasts three of Columbus’ professional sports venues and four professional sports teams all on one street. The vibe is dynamic and lively, but there’s more than just sports. The global food stalls at North Market are a can’t-miss and McFerson Commons Park feels truly special with a stunning historic arch from the old Union Station and its stately grass lawn. The Arena District is where to be when it comes time for a celebration, concert or ball game.

Campus/University District

University District is home to The Ohio State University and brings together college spirit, arts and culture, local dining and major event venues. Visit Ohio Stadium on game day, see a concert at the Schottenstein Center or explore the area’s popular restaurants and bars. The neighborhood’s energetic atmosphere and walkable streets make it a favorite place to experience a different side of Columbus.
