Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens offers art and nature-based exhibitions, botanical collections, gardens as well as 83,000-square-feet of greenhouses. The Conservatory is situated in the 88-acre Franklin Park, which features botanical gardens, art sculptures and a one-mile walking loop. The Conservatory's signature collection of works by glass artist Dale Chihuly is on long-term view. Local glass artists provide daily glassblowing demonstrations included with admission. A four-acre community garden campus features culinary and demonstration gardens; a live-fire cooking theater; and an education pavilion where events and programs for all ages occur year-round. Upcoming exhibitions include Blooms & Butterflies (Mar. 10-Sept. 3, 2012); Sacrifice + Bliss: Aurora Robson (Sept. 9, 2012 - April 28, 2013); Merry & Bright (Nov. 17, 2012 - Jan. 6, 2013); and Orchids (Jan. 12 - April 7, 2013). Special events include concerts and entertainment, children’s crafts and activities, and family activities during the holidays. A menu of gardening, culinary, visual arts and family educational programs are offered. The John F. Wolfe Palm House, a Victorian-era glasshouse, is illuminated every evening by a light installation designed by world-renowned artist James Turrell. Facilities available for private events include the Palm House, the Veridian, the Brides Garden, two rooftop gardens and the Community Garden Campus. The Conservatory Garden Cafe is open daily from 11a.m.-3p.m., and serves local, fresh sandwiches, salads and weekly specials. Botanica Gift Shop and Greenhouse features giftware, handblown glass from the Conservatory's Hot Shop, children's items, books, plants and accessories for the gardener. Group tours, meeting spaces and experiential tours are available with advance reservations.
